Born and raised in Melbourne, Alex completed a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne before side stepping office life to become a teacher, undertaking a Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) at LaTrobe University. Arriving in the Kimberley as a graduate teacher, she quickly came to appreciate the spectacular and untouched environment as central to Kimberley life. Alex has lived in Yiyili Community (between Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek) for most of her time in the Kimberley, working as a classroom teacher and literacy specialist teacher. Alex loves community life, and has come to appreciate it even more as she watches her very busy toddler (Lucy) delight in her surrounds. Whilst on a steep learning curve concerning the details of environmental issues, policies and campaigns in both the Kimberley and further afield, Alex is passionate about understanding and contributing to the community outside the confines of the school grounds of Yiyili Aboriginal Community School, where she will take on the role of principal in 2017.
