Public Comment Now Open for Kimberley Fracking Proposal
This is your opportunity to make a comment against Texas-based fracking company Black Mountain Energy and its plans to frack in the Kimberley region of WA. The Kimberley is globally recognised as the largest, most intact tropical savannah on Earth. It is under serious threat from Black Mountain’s ‘Valhalla’ fracking proposal and larger Canning Basin gas export plans.
The ‘Valhalla’ fracking project is currently undergoing assessment through the federal EPBC Act and has now been opened to public comment. The federal environment department (DCCEEW) is looking to make a final decision in the coming months. If Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt says ‘NO’, as he should, the proposal is finished.
Black Mountain Energy, via subsidiary company Bennett Resources Ltd, wants to drill and frack 20 wells in the catchment of the National Heritage-listed Martuwarra Fitzroy River and frack within 1.5km of its important tributary, Mount Hardman Creek.
We have created this pre-filled letter to simplify the public comment process but we encourage you to take the time to add a personal comment; it will give it more weight when being assessed. We must stop this polluting, unwanted and unnecessary proposal from destroying the world-renowned Kimberley.
