Volunteers are the heart of EK. Each person contributes in their own way to keeping the nature of the Kimberley protected. Whether you are a local or someone visiting, we have plenty of opportunities to give back.
EK Market Stall
Each fortnight, we have our community information stall and shop at the Broome Courthouse markets. We are always looking for people to drive the market trailer, or to work in pairs in 2.5 hour slots on the stall. This is a wonderful way to share our campaigns and projects with the community and raise funds to continue our advocacy work. Time commitment: 2.5 hours each month.
EK’s Annual Art Auction, fundraising concerts and other EK events
We have some really exciting events scheduled in 2024. Please contact [email protected] for information on how you can get involved in this years events. Time commitment: 4-8 hours per event.
We are working hard with community to protect the nature of the Kimberley. We are always looking for passionate people to contribute time and ideas to our advocacy work; including our Frack Free Kimberley and Martuwarra Fitzroy River campaigns. Time commitment: Varied
Society for Kimberley Indigenous Plants and Animals (SKIPA)
SKIPA is a group of dedicated and enthusiastic naturalists who propagate Kimberley plant species, run field trips to collect specimens, conduct flora and fauna surveys, plant trees, collect and clean seeds and undertake weed control work. Find out more here. Time commitment: 1.5-10 hours per month.
Seagrass Monitoring
Every 3 months volunteers gather on the shores of Roebuck Bay to enjoy fresh muffins and coffee before heading out onto the mudflats to monitor the health of Broome’s seagrass meadows - one of our Bay’s most fundamental yet fragile ecosystems. Find out more here. Time commitment: 3-10 hours.
