The Australian Government's Environment Minister Murray Watt will make a decision later this year on whether fracking will be allowed in the Kimberley. The controversial proposal by Texas based oil and gas company Black Mountain Energy is currently open for public comment until the 20th July.
On Sunday over a 150 community members came together to send a message to Minister Watt calling on him to reject the fracking proposal.

Broome based conservation group Environs Kimberley Executive Director Martin Pritchard said -
"The community here is vehemently opposed to the highly polluting fracking industry. To drill and frack 20 oil and gas wells in the heart of the Kimberley with 18,000 tonnes of chemicals, many poisonous to fish and other aquatic life, would be sacrilege.
This would be the thin end of the wedge - we’d be facing hundreds if not thousands of wells if they went into full production.
The Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt and the Prime Minister have a stark choice to make, protect the Kimberley or open it up to a US fracking corporation.
This will be their legacy."
